boating with henshaws

07 july 2011

We were honoured when a group from Henshaws Society for the Blind joined us for an evening's boating on the Tyne. With some taking turns to drive the Champ, much fun was had by all. Further information on The Society can be found at www.henshaws.org.uk
David feels how cold the Tyne is as he's sat on the Champ with Alison watching Cadets from Gateshead Unit, who are boating with us, watch as the Champ is made ready Kev and Griff are in the first Champ ready to go - the engine starts - what a noise Terri - from Gateshead Unit - is at the helm as the others wait to leave the pontoon.
... and off they go for the first trip - but where's David? He's in the other Champ that won't start. David now joins the others - hang on - is that Kev steering with the tiller? Champ 2 is now fixed and off we go to catch up with the others - with Becky driving ..... helped my mum Chief Finlay from Ashington Unit
Becky is getting the hang of steering the Champ - wonder how the boys are getting on in the other boat ....and there they all are, waving. Can't see who's steering this time David looking very serene
What's up with Griff then? He's not smiling for me! Says he's enjoying it though. Gwynne's on the boat - and Kev is doing the driving. He's a mischevious one! Aye up - David doesn't want to be left out - Hah, Griff laughs at last - I wonder what Alison said to him.
