derwenthaugh boat station

Introduction

Derwenthaugh Boat Station (T.S. Northumbria) is a Sea Cadet Boating Station on the River Tyne near Scotswood Bridge. It was opened in 1987 to provide boating facilities for local Units in the Tyneside area.

After its formation, it quickly became established and gained Royal Yachting Association accreditation in 1988 to become an RYA Training Centre.

Our registration name with the RYA is SCC T.S. Northumbria.

Throughout the year, a comprehensive training programme is in place so that staff and cadets have ample opportunity to gain proficiencies in their chosen discipline. Most of the training takes place in the immediate vicinity of the Boat Station. However, the RYA Advanced and Intermediate power courses are conducted in the Tyne estuary and out at sea.

All organised courses are overseen by a Senior member of the training team and all training is carried out by qualified RYA Instructors.

As well as organised courses, local Units do their boatwork training here.
